Preventing Sun Scald on Tree Trunks: Landscape Fabric #775655

Dear USC Ag Extension,
RE: Protecting trees from sun scald.
We tried the paper wrap last year. With the first wet event, the paper was sagging and no longer protecting our tree trunks. This year we are trying landscape (weed blocker) fabric. It looks a LOT better than the paper wrap. Any issues using this material? Do I need to worry about landscape fabric "breathing" to allow air to the tree truck during Fall/Winter? If landscape fabric is wrapped about 3 times around the tree trunk...too much?
Also, what about using plastic pipe (~ 4-5" diameter) to cover tree trunks to protect from sun scald? This solution fits new, small trunks but won't work on large diameter trees.

Thank you for your question on Sunscald. Yes Landscape Fabric would work as would burlap. Just dont wrap it too tight or too long a time. I am sending you a link to Plantalk, on the topic of Sunscald. I hope this helps you!
I am glad you are babying your precious trees!!! Good for you!.
