Are artillery fungus spores toxic to humans if eaten? The spores got all over my lettuce leaves and were difficult to wash off. Even after washing the leaves 5 times there was likely one left on a leaf. I can't find any information about whether of not these spores are toxic if eaten. Since it is likely I would unwillingly eat one, I tore out all my lettuce this spring and am not planning to plant lettuce next year since I have learned that it is very difficult to get rid of artillery fungus. I only have room for two 4 x 4 raised beds in my yard. Thank you.

Expert Response
I have never heard of this fungus as having any toxic properties to humans. Usually they land on siding and cars!
