deformed pears #773400

Asked September 28, 2021, 11:47 AM EDT

All the tens of pears on our Luscious tree were deformed this year - see photo. We're in Brookfield. The tree was not sprayed this year. It's about 10 years old and never previously produced much fruit and I don't recall the pears that it did yield being deformed. I performed a quick Google search and it appears that the cause could be one of many, including various pests or virus. Any advice or insight would be appreciated. In case it would help also attached is a photo of the tree from May 2021.

The deformity in your pears is likely due to stings of various plant bugs such as tarnished plant bug, perhaps stink bugs, etc. Here is more info on this very common pest and some management options: https://extension.unh.edu/sites/default/files/migrated_unmanaged_files/Resource000555_Rep577.pdf
