Do marmorated stink bugs fly? #773285

Asked September 27, 2021, 3:36 PM EDT

What are the brown, flying, beetle-like bugs about half the size up to the size of a dime. They are coming in the house by wedging themselves inside the door frame or screen. I had up to 8 of them flop down on the floor when I opened the door after being away for a few days last week. They sound like a small drone.

Expert Response

Yes they can. Brown marmorated stink bugs fly into homes where they tend to hover around lights, and it is not uncommon for residents to witness these bugs swarming around porch lights and street lights en masse. Because of this particular attraction, keeping all unnecessary outside lights off can help prevent invasive stink bug issues around homes. Here is more information: Watch for brown marmorated stink bugs | UMN Extension
