Greetings and good afternoon,
Overwintering roses in containers will vary slightly depending on the cold weather tolerance, or zone that the roses are rates as. Many ornamental roses are not cold hardy in Alaska and will be rated as zone 5 or higher. Do you know the variety of rose you would like to overwinter, or it's zone rating?
If the variety you have is rated 5 or higher, it is possible to over-winter it. I am including a link to our free publication on how to do so below.

Rugosa and Arctic roses, however, are cold hardy and need very little extra protection to over-winter in a container. You will just need to bury the pot in the ground and apply a thick layer of mulch around the freshly disturbed soil.
