Montgomery County Maryland
Expert Response
This is an unusual specimen, and we are not very familiar with it but believe it matches a native species called Gall of the Earth, also known as Three-leaved Rattlesnake-root (Nabalus trifoliolatus). Interestingly, the Maryland Biodiversity Project, which collects documentation of organisms of all kinds in the state, only has one record for Talbot County for this species. Therefore, you may be able to give them a new county record if you wish to submit your photo. It's easy to do, and you can read the "How Can I Share Photos?" information on this page if you're interested: https://www.marylandbiodiversity.com/about/faq.php
