powdery mildew on lilac bushes #772534

Asked September 21, 2021, 1:00 PM EDT

Is it necessary to treat this? I'm hearing different viewpoints. Some say no need to treat. A neighbor treated them with liquid copper solution. Thank you!

Expert Response

Hello Patrice,

Great question. Incidence of powdery mildew seems high in spite of the high temperatures and low humidity. Powdery mildew does no real damage, but makes the leaves look damaged. Hosing the leaves off with a good water stream helps, and an application of a copper or sulfur fungicide may help...

Not a major worry, but perhaps something to address.

Thank you, Ron
