Did the holes appear at about the same time? Did you have hail? If so, that's the likely cause. It's not uncommon for hosts to have holes in the leaves, and these are due to a variety of causes, but because you have holes in both plants, hail comes first to mind. If not hail, the most common culprits are snails and slugs. Because some of the holes in your hostess are elongated, the damage may instead be due to cutworms. Have you seen any insects or creatures on or near the plants? This may be the key to identifying the exact source. In the absence of creatures, check out the attached websites.
