Trying to identify insect #771601

Asked September 14, 2021, 4:44 PM EDT

I have noticed large numbers of these non-flying insects in our backyard. Would you happen to know what I am seeing here?

Expert Response

These are aphids.  It's difficult to identify them without knowing what plant they were feeding on, but there are several common types found here.  See http://extension.colostate.edu/topic-areas/insects/aphids-on-shade-trees-and-ornamentals-5-511/ for some possibilities.

Thanks for the information. These aphids have been building their numbers around our crack willows, near the shore of Sherwood Lake. I found these little guys on a branch that had fallen during a recent blow.
