Brown patch #770295

Asked September 01, 2021, 5:11 PM EDT

I have a couple brown patches like this one. No worms/grubs under them. With our wet weather we’ve had plenty of mushrooms - is this just a fungus? I read recently about the Army worm problems here in Dublin but I’m pretty sure it isn’t an insect issue.

I agree that the lawn damage in your photos does not look like it is caused by Armyworms.

It is likely caused by fungus - either Rhizoctonia solani or Sclerotinia homoeocarpa.

These differ in pattern and color for sight identification.

The link below contains further details about Rhizoctonia solani and how it affects turfgrass.

It could also be Dollar Spot – which is caused by the fungus Sclerotinia homoeocarpa.

Below is a link about this fungal lawn disease.

I’m also including a link to this helpful turf disease identification tool as well.
