Where do I get soil tested for types of nematodes present? #768991

Asked August 24, 2021, 4:42 PM EDT

I have clear evidence of root-knot nematode damage in my carrots (see pictures). I'd like to decrease their numbers with crop rotation and planting non-host plants. But multiple websites advise getting the soil tested for the specific type of nematode present to be sure of the right management program. Problem is, I don't know where to get my soil tested for nematodes. I picked up soil testing envelopes from the Portage County Extension Office, but I didn't see anywhere on them to request nematode analysis.

Expert Response

Hi Julie. I can see beautiful healthy carrots in the background of picture 1 and I'm sorry about the infected one.

The best I can tell you is to contact your Portage County Extension office and ask. I think there might be a spot for "special request" but because test form varies the local Extension person should be able to tell you the best place to start. Best of luck to you for the remainder of your harvest!
