Young Linden tree started growing new branches and leaves in July #767149

Asked August 12, 2021, 9:47 PM EDT

Hello. I have a Linden tree that is on it's 3rd year of summer. This summer it did not start leafing out at all until the beginning of July. We thought it may have died, but now it is growing new branches and has nice leaves on the newly grown branches. The old branches still have no leaves. Why do you think this happened? We live near Loveland, CO. See attached photo Thank you! John Greenough

Hi John,

We have had 2 winters into Spring that have puzzled our landscapes including trees. There are many trees that have died or suffered a die back such as yours. Above is an article written about this. I hope it helps you to understand.

What should you do now for your tree? Water and fertilizer as normal plus a little more to help it get established again. Prune your dead branches out. Dead branches can be pruned anytime, however other pruning should be done as the tree is dorment in the winter. Extra care and your tree should bounce back. Happy Summer!  Peggy
