Mushroom identification #765932

Asked August 05, 2021, 2:20 PM EDT

I am a custodian and as part of my run, I am suppose to water two plants at the end of a hallway in the school. The small plant on the right created beautiful flowers. It was just only one at a time, and only four flowers total. The small tree on the left is now showing some type of mushroom growth. All I have ever done is water them, and added some potting soil that the science department had left over. Any information on either or both of the plants, and the mushroom growth in the pot with the tree, would be appreciated greatly! Thank you!

Hi James,

We are thinking that the plant on the right is a hibiscus.  https://hortnews.extension.iastate.edu/2008/9-10/hibiscus.html

The plant on the left is a fiscus.  https://hgic.clemson.edu/factsheet/weeping-ficus/

The mushrooms are growing because it is a moist environment and there is probably some decaying wood material in the soil.  Just like on our lawns mushrooms can grow until the wood material is decomposed.  Usually they don't last long but they can be removed and thrown away.
