Our neighbor has two trees that have gotten quite large and out of control. They are now infested with worms that seem to be killing them. They are dropping all the dead leaves covered in worms everywhere. These trees will fall on my house if not taken care of. Any ideas on what can be done?

Hello, these defoliating insects are larvae of a native beetle called the alder flea beetle. The defoliation is very flashy, and will subside quickly as the larvae will drop to the soil and pupate soon. The alder may continue producing new leaves after the defoliation, so should green up a little. They rarely kill the tree.
Of course it is difficult to know how much of a danger this tree is or could be, so I'm not in a position to comment on that. I would suggest consulting with the homeowner and seeing if you can come to some kind of resolution on what to do.
