Clusters of leaves falling from oak tree #765070

Asked August 01, 2021, 3:27 PM EDT

We have clusters of leaves falling from our oak tree. Some are green and healthy looking, and some are brown and dry. When you look at the tree there are clusters of leaves at the end of most branches. There are some fuzzy growth at the junction of the veins on the back of the leaves. This has happened in previous years, but seems much worse this year. The tree seems healthy except for this. Thanks

Expert Response

There are many possible causes of the problem you are experiencing with your oak tree, either biotic or abiotic and it is impossible to diagnosis the problem with pictures.  I would recommend you take samples to  the Jefferson County Plant Diagnostic Clinic. Please refer to the link below for details on how to proceed.

Another option is to contact a certified arborist to provide an on-site consult of the problem. The link to the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) is included.
