Anthracnose on Tomato? #765014

Asked August 01, 2021, 8:00 AM EDT

Hi, My cherry tomato is showing spots or freckles on the ripening fruit. Is this anthracnose? My other plants are not affected, I don't know if I show try to save the plant or get rid of it before it spreads. It's very near a woods, with walnut and lots of wild grape. The foliage looks fine, it's just spots on the fruit. The uppermost fruit is affect -- most of the fruit actually, but not just on the bottom. I used weedblock so I don't think they got exposed to soil. Of course we've had a lot of rain and wind, and humidity. Sadly a few fruits that are more ripe than the picture, do seem to show sunken spots though nothing looks that bad, and they taste ok.

Hello,

Reviewing the pics you sent and other photos of anthracnose, I don't think that is what is affecting your tomatoes.  To me, it looks more like a bacteria.  Here are a couple of links that might help.

I think that yours is just starting and is very slight.  Take a look at this info and see if you agree.  I hope this helps.

For me, I would get them away from the other crops and not risk it spreading.

Thanks, that makes sense. The plant was given to me by my husband, his coworker sold a 6 pack of different varieties as seedlings and he brought them home. Possibly the seed used was infected, the other plants don't show symptoms. The conditions have been perfect for it to take hold. I'll go ahead and pull the plant.
