Leaves dying on Honeycrisp Apple Tree #764971

Asked July 31, 2021, 3:37 PM EDT

Hello, We planted a Honeycrisp apple tree in May and have noticed that some of the new growth on the tree is dying. We have tried to be good about watering it regularly. Any ideas what might be causing this, and is there anything we can do to correct the problem? Thanks, Rachel Rogness

Expert Response

It is suffering from transplant shock and very hot weather. Mulch under the tree, water it when the soil is dry to a depth of 2 inches and do not fertilize it. If you live in an area with deer protect it this winter or deer will clip all the branches they can reach.
