Rain garden or small tree for East yard #764784

Asked July 30, 2021, 11:47 AM EDT

I have removed most of the grass and am having a large stump ground out from my East yard which is by the SE intersection. I am planning a native pollinator garden and would love to include a rain garden and possibly a small tree-form serviceberry tree. All the utilities are on the north end of the yard and I have existing part shade garden close to the house. I am keeping a 4 foot wide path of grass. Our neighborhood soil is good, but may be depleted from the removal of the large silver maple. There is a pretty large Hackberry tree on the East Boulevard about 7 1/2 feet from the fence. Do you think a tree-form serviceberry tree will have enough distance from the Hackberry? Would old roots interfere with a raingarden?

That is a lovely project.

Here are a couple non-profits that can work with you.  I suggest calling MetroBlooms first.
