Foreign Plant in Pink Lemonade Blueberry Pot #764707

Asked July 29, 2021, 7:23 PM EDT

Something has taken root in the pot of my Pink Lemonade Blueberries (at the front of the house). I looked around the yard and found (seemingly) the same species of this mystery plant by the sidewalk near the front door (about 15-20 feet away from the blueberry pot), and also in another pot in the back of the house (about 50-60 feet away). The pot in the back is full of foliage and carrots from last year that are there to produce me seeds. Yet the object attached to the leaves looks like a peanut. If it is a peanut, how did they get around the house and into my pots? Should I uproot it as soon as possible?

Expert Response

These look like peanut plants for sure. Squirrels will often transport nuts/acorns and bury them in places to store food for the winter, so that is a possibility for how they could have arrived in various places. They could have been transported from discarded peanuts that were put in a compost pile somewhere -- it is hard to say for sure. You can just pull or dig them out.
