What is eating my pepper plant? #764648

Asked July 29, 2021, 2:44 PM EDT

Hello! Something is munching on my pepper plant. I’ve only seen this kind of bite on peppers, and it’s in 2 different raised beds. It doesn’t seem to be impacting the plant’s growth or health however. I would like to know, if possible, what it is, and if I need to do anything about it. Thanks, Denise Rowcroft

Hi Denise:

This looks like damage from a leafcutting bee.  They use 0.25 to 0.5 inch circular pieces of leaves they neatly cut from plants to construct nests.  It doesn't look nice, but they will not harm the plant.  I'm going to attach an interesting article regarding their life cycle and management recommendations below:

Leafcutting Bees

Take care,
