What is this plant? #764639

Asked July 29, 2021, 2:05 PM EDT

Hello, I have some wild black raspberry plants (I believe - they bear fruit) on my property, which I'd like to preserve and even expand. There is another plant that looks very similar to the black raspberry plants, the leaves are larger and lighter, and it does not bear fruit. They are covered with fine needles and grow incredibly rapidly. Can you tell me what this plant is? I'll probably be pulling them so that the black raspberries can fill in but don't want to if there is some benefit to them. The attached picture shows the black raspberry plant in the bottom left and the other taking up the top portion of the photo. Thanks you, Steve

Expert Response

Hi, Steve,

The invasive plant is Japanese Wineberry, and you should remove it. You can read about it by clicking here and here.
