Juneberry tree dying #764583
Asked July 29, 2021, 11:33 AM EDT
Hello Master Gardner team! I am hoping to find a way to connect with you and see what advice you may have for us to save our Juneberry tree. I am attaching some photos of the black burn-like areas and the yellowing leaves (photos taken this week). Could I stop by the U and talk with someone, or could someone stop by, or is there a way to connect with you over the phone and maybe show you over FaceTime or similar how the tree looks?
Thank you SO MUCH in advance for your response,

We can't diagnose the problem by viewing the photos.
The stub and trunk might have been blackened by fireblight. Compare here:

If sap flowed after pruning, sooty mold may have colonized it and blackened the affected area.
Cankers caused by other fungal pathogens may have blackened the trunk/branch.
Under the circumstances, hiring a tree care professional (forester or certified arborist) to evaluate the tree's health onsite is the best way to diagnose the problem and find out what to do about it.
If you decide to hire an arborist, the following information may be useful:
