excessive sap on Norway Spruce #764270

Asked July 27, 2021, 4:38 PM EDT

My 40 year old Norway Spruce is dripping a lot of sap. It appears to be coming from the green cones at the top of the tree. Please see attached picture. Is this normal? Otherwise the tree appears healthy.

Neal,
Can you tell us what color the sap is?  (And maybe send a picture of it?)

It appears to be clear sap coming from the new green pine cones at the top of my Norway Spruce.

Thank you for the picture and description of the sap.

If the tree appears to be otherwise healthy, I think the oozing sap may be normal.   The danger only occurs if you have sap coming from holes in the trunk. Those are usually caused by boring insects and can be a serious problem.

I am sending you information to be on the look out for in case your tree develops other symptoms.
