Hello, Here is the response we received from our Iowa State University Entomologist:
Hello
Thank you for your inquiry and for contacting Iowa State University. The insect in your photo is called the western conifer seed bug. I call them “pine seed bug.”

Note the expanded hind tibia and the white zigzag line on the back.
Leaf-footed bugs are distant relatives of the kissing bugs, but leaf-footed bugs such as pine seed bug feed only on plant sap.
