Hi! I saw an insect that I’d never seen before. I'm wondering if it is new to our area

This is a Baldfaced Hornet, and they are a native wasp that can be found state-wide. There may be a nest in a tree in the area if you're seeing them forage in the yard, though this is not a problem if it's not too close to human activity. (If the nest still exists this late into the summer, it's probably not bothering anyone.)
