White specks on Bristlecone needles #763736

Asked July 24, 2021, 6:45 PM EDT

What are these white specks on Bristlecone pine needles - could it be normal? Or scale or another problem? The tree was newly planted a little over 2 months ago.

Jefferson County Colorado

Expert Response

Hello,

Those are tree resin drops, and Bristlecone pine is known to have them on their needles. The needles produce the resin drops, and they dry on the needles. It is completely normal. No need for control.
