Swamp Oak Tree Assistance #763635

Asked July 24, 2021, 9:17 AM EDT

On our property in Huntington Township, near Wellington, sits a grand and historic (I am told) swamp oak tree. It is in distress. We have contacted two arborists to help us in returning the tree to its original glory. We are choosing to use an organic method to try and save the tree. We were wondering if you could connect us to someone or an organization where we may apply for a grant that may help defray the cost of saving our tree.

Expert Response

Barbara,

What a beautiful tree!  No wonder you want to save it.

If I am correct, you live in Lorain County.  Therefore I would suggest you call Ann Chanon, the county Educator for Agriculture and Natural Resources,<personal data hidden>, <personal data hidden>, who should be able to point you in the right direction.

There is an organization, Champion Trees of Ohio, which is a voluntary effort to locate, measure, and record the largest trees of different species in the state.  They may also have some advice for you.  https://ohiodnr.gov>odnr>about-ODNR.forestry

I would also make sure that you are working with a certified arborist on your project.  See https://www.trees4ohio.org.

The email address you sent to me about saving our swamp oak tree, <personal data hidden>, fails to send.  Might there be a new email address?

Thank you,
Barbara Poznako

Sorry you had trouble.  Her email is <personal data hidden>.  Please note the dot or period before the 1 and the correct (my mistake) spelling of her name. Hope that works for you.
