Redbud Issues #763271

Asked July 22, 2021, 3:15 PM EDT

Trying to figure out what is going on with a redbud tree and how to treat it. Can't find any bugs so think it is a fungus/disease. Thanks! Garth

Expert Response

Hello Garth,

The Redbud leaf damage looks environmental, so not related to a pest or disease that we can see. "Tatter" is a condition where leaves can sometimes get beaten-up by wind, scraping against other twigs, hail from a summer thunderstorm, and other factors. Despite being a bit of an eyesore close-up, it doesn't harm the tree and the leaves can continue to feed it via photosynthesis. You don't need to do anything about it, but if damage worsens or you see other worrying symptoms, feel free to send us additional photos.
