Fertilizing and weed killers during this extremely dry weather #763104

Asked July 21, 2021, 5:28 PM EDT

I just sent the TruGreen guy on his way without doing an application. I was appalled that they would even think it is a good time to apply fertilizer and weed killer considering this extremely hot, dry weather. I have been watering all along and my lawn looks pretty good compared to lawns in the neighborhood. I live near Como Lake. Should this service be rescheduled?

Ramsey County Minnesota

Expert Response

Herbicides should be used when weeds are actively growing. You should not spray to control weeds when temperatures are warm and the soil is dry. This increases the likelihood of damaging the lawn. Do not fertilize in hot mid-summer months. The following is a lawn care calendar to help you schedule your lawn care.
