I have a lilac tree #762819

Asked July 20, 2021, 2:05 PM EDT

We purchased a lilac tree this spring. It hasn’t really taken off. Some leaves have brown on the edges. It doesn’t really look like a insect, but t sure perhaps a fungus. It has been very hot. It almost looks a little scaulded.  I would welcome any suggestions.  It looks salvageable at this point, but needs help.

Expert Response

Hi Tom,

I think you are right. This young lilac looks stressed, likely due to the heat and dry conditions. This does not appear to be insect or disease related. The best thing you can do is make sure it is getting plenty of water. I have been watering my newly planted trees and shrubs every day or every other day. Once lilacs are established, they are very drought tolerant. Regular water for the first 2-3 years will help it establish and thrive.

Thanks for the question.
