Late Figwort leaf damage - disease or pest? #761233

Asked July 12, 2021, 10:38 AM EDT

What's damaging these Late Figwort leaves (Scrophularia marilandica) and is there a non-chemical solution? (Growing for pollinators.) On a four foot plant, only the lower 6-8" of leaves show damage. See file 2, Late Figwort 5. We have some seedlings that are beginning to show this condition and wonder whether the plants are ok to share with other gardeners.

Hi Terri

You appear to have brown spot on your figwort.  If it is a mild case, less than 50% then prune the plant with a tool that you wipe in a 10% bleach solution after each prune, making sure to destroy the leaves.   If it is greater than 50% of the plant, do the same thing and then spray with a combo of fungicide and bactericide that is safe for veggies and fruits. You need one for both because we are not sure whether your spots are caused  by fungus or bacteria.  Make sure that there is good ventilation around the plant and that you practice good sanitation picking up all fallen leaves.    Here is a good, but very technical article for you.  https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s1<personal data hidden>-8  Hope this helps
