5' Weeping Cherry Tree Dying 2 months after planting. #760645

Asked July 08, 2021, 1:33 PM EDT

We have a young weeping cherry tree that we purchased and planted two months ago.  She was doing great, until this past week.  There has been a lot of rain, but nothing standing.  The leaves started wilting and dying quickly.  Is there anything we can do at this point to save her?  She is planted in sandy soil.  We water her twice a week (except this week because of all the rain).  Thank you!

Expert Response

Have any pesticides been applied to the tree, or herbicides applied in vicinity of the tree? Although over- or under-watering would be the most common culprit for the symptoms seen here, it could also possibly be phytotoxicity (poisoning by a chemical).

I can't see the base of the trunk in your photo. Is the tree mulched?
