Identifying apple trees #760444

Asked July 07, 2021, 1:48 PM EDT

I live in Richmond just at the border of Henrico County off of Williamsburg Road and there are 5 apple trees on my property. Is there a way to identify what variety of apples they are producing? One had a label that it is 5 varieties grafted to one plant but the labels of which branch is which have mostly fallen off. The other four have no labels at all. The two largest ones produce the most apples and are pictured below--they start out green as in the first picture and then get a reddish tinge as in the last two. These pictures were all taken today, 7/7/21. I would like to know if they are "eating" apples or "cider" or "sauce" apples or what. The house is only about 6 years old and I believe the trees were all planted by the prior owner. I can send more pictures if necessary, or even bring samples of leaves and apples. Let me know if you have any advice! Last year we waited for them to fall and they were terribly bug-eaten. But this year we are going to try to pick more before that happens. Without knowing the variety, it is hard to know the proper time to pick them. Some appear ready now but it seems early. Thank you!

I will reach out to our fruit specialists and see if they can possibly identify them from the picture and get back with you when I get a reply.
