Flying insects w/ in-ground nests #760314

Asked July 06, 2021, 3:35 PM EDT

Note --- 1st email sent did not include images. Please help me identify never before seen flying insects emerging from holes/burrows in our back yard. Before I dig the 'nests' up, I would like to identify the insect. Thank you in advance for your time, Kelly

Expert Response

This seems to be one of a group of harmless ground-nesting bees.  The adults construct and provision underground cells for their young.  In a few days the openings will be sealed and the adults will die off.
