Red oak worm #760212

Asked July 06, 2021, 10:21 AM EDT

Hello! we have a fairly young red oak, noted a hole in bark about 3 feet up, with fluid coming out. Today there appears to b a white worm coming out of it. Many other insects congregating. Can you help identify and give advice for treatment?

thank you Ann. We pulled worm out (in pieces unfortunately) and wiped off sap with alcohol and water. Ooze continues but less, no more sign of worms. You can see in the pics there is a bulge in the bark near the hole, though maybe this is incidental and not new. Flies and other insects congregate on the sap. Overall things seem a bit better. Thx, Mark
