Pecan tree trunk problem #760009
Asked July 05, 2021, 9:08 AM EDT
Hello, One of our pecan trees has a hole at its base with red dust around it. It's not obvious if there are insects there. The tree has been producing pecans every other year & otherwise seems healthy. We have sprayed tree pruning paint on the area, but the red dust comes back. Is there anything we can do to help this tree stay alive in the long run? Thanks.

Expert Response
Please have the tree evaluated by a certified arborist. The red dust is most likely spores from a fungus. Here is a link to help you find a certified arborist in your area. https://www.treesaregood.org/findanarborist/arboristsearch
Thanks for the question.
