Hello,
One of our oak trees lost a big branch. There are 3 pictures attached. Picture "oak 1 " shows the branch in the ground , picture "Oak 2 " shows the hole left in the tree, picture "Oak 3 " shows in detail the affected area .
What should we do ?
Is there anything that could be done to save the tree?
Should we remove the whole tree? or just the affected branch ?
Thanks in advance

Hi,
That’s a pretty serious wound to your oak that happened at a bad time (April through August is when the fungus that causes oak wilt is most rampant).
You can try and paint the wound with latex house paint to protect from the fungus.
If it’s an important tree to you, I would have a certified arborist come take a look: https://extension.umn.edu/planting-and-growing-guides/how-hire-tree-care-professional
