Bright green patches in yard now turning brown #758547

Asked June 26, 2021, 2:51 PM EDT

Help! We have beautiful gardens but our lawn is a mess. For the past couple of years we have had areas of being green grass that turn brown after warm temps-usually in August but appearing now in June. The bright grass grows faster than the other grass. What do you think it is and how should we treat it. Our lawn care company (which we no longer use) said it was during unusually wet times-certainly not this year, Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Sure are loving the rain today!

Without photos I cannot give you advice.  All I can do is recommend you go to this web site and see if any of the grassy weeds match.   Is this plant a weed? : Garden : University of Minnesota Extension (umn.edu)

I hope the pictures attached. Sorry for the delay in responding since messages from Extension went into my junk file and I didn’t see them right away. Thank you.

Now I would ask that you pull some of the dead grass and some of that which is still bright green.  Lay them sideways on white paper and take a photo of the length.  Do you see any discoloration, red, dots, etc.?  You can forward the photo to us.
