My Magnolia tree is 20 + year old. The lower branches have developed a fungus on them and leaves are dying. I called Bachman's and they told me it had some fancy fungal name disease. They told me the tree would die within 2 years. They informed me that they are no longer recommending the Magnolia tree is Minnesota. Is there anything I can do to save this beautiful tree...thank you,

Hi,
This looks like a pretty heavy infestation of scale. See this: https://hennepinmastergardeners.org/scale-insects-take-a-closer-look/
Scale can actually kill the tree, and it is very difficult to treat. There are control methods in this article: https://hortnews.extension.iastate.edu/magnolia-scale
I’m sorry about your tree.
