Vine Suggestion #757310

Asked June 20, 2021, 2:32 PM EDT

Our home overlooks Manitou Springs and is at an elevation of 8350 feet. Would there be a vine that we could grow on the side of our home to cover an unsightly electric meter box? Thanks!

Expert Response

Hello,

Thank you for your question.

At your elevation it will only leave a few to select from.

1) Bittesweet Autumn Revolution: It will grow up to 15-20ft and will probably need pruning. It will have berries in the fall.

2) Red Wall Virginia Creeper  and  Engleman Ivy Virginia Creeper will both grow 20- 30 ft tall. They are known to be aggressive climbers and will take over a house wall in a few years.

Some honeysuckle vine could do well as long as in a protected spot and not being exposed to winter winds.

Very few clematis will do in such high altitude.
the short growing season is the reason for that. Some of the clematis will not have time to bloom.

Silver lace vine needs a warm and protected spot as well.
