we have two large/holes tunnels in our back yard what is making this? #757308

We have two large holes/tunnels in our back yard, if we cover them with rocks this rodent or whatever it is digs another hole beside it, what can be making this and what do we do to get rid of it, the holes are about the size of a fifty cent piece or larger and the tunnels seem to go down quite a ways, I have never seen what is making them.

Hi,

It could be chipmunks. They can make extensive tunnels and are hard to get rid of.

It is chipmunk, saw it pop out of one of the holes.  I love chipmunks but this one is making huge holes and our neighbor who has tons of bird feeders up doesn't care.  Can we use a rat trap to get rid of them or do we have to use a live trap and let them go somewhere else?

Hi,

Yes, use a rat trap (or mouse trap if the chipmunk is small).  That’s really the most humane way to get rid of them. You can use peanut butter as a lure.
