Flower i.d. help Red Mountain Open Space #757285

Asked June 20, 2021, 11:45 AM EDT

Hi! We saw some flowers in Red Mountain Open Space yesterday that we don't recognize and are having trouble identifying. Would you be able to help us out? We saw so many awesome plants out there! Got to see some miners candle and scarlet guara. Pics of the two we're having trouble id'ing are attached! We think the blue flower may be a type of Penstemon, but not sure. Thank you for taking a peek, please let me know what you come up with! Respectfully, Cherry

What an interesting question! Both plants are lovely. My best guess is that the first image is a Downy Painted Cup, in the Castilleja family (similar to the Indian Paintbrush).

I suspect the second image is a Rocky Mountain Penstemon, as you predicted.
