Mandevilla Leaves #757160

Asked June 19, 2021, 9:31 AM EDT

What in the world is wrong with this Mandevilla? It's losing leaves and they turn yellow/brown from the inside out. Weird? It sits against a wall that runs N/S on the West side.

Olmsted County Minnesota

Expert Response

They are tropical plants and accustomed to high humidity and temperatures in the 80s not upper 90s and low humidity. A west facing wall is going to be one of the hottest places in your yard this summer. It looks like the poor thing is just cooking and drying up. It may need to be watered several times a day to keep ahead of the water loss from heat and you might check the temperature of the wood behind the plant during the hottest part of the day. If it’s over 100° it will be damaging the plant tissue.

Thank you!
