Chestnut tree leaves turn yellow early in summer #756487

Asked June 15, 2021, 9:57 PM EDT

Hello! I planted two of them in my yard. None is doing well, one is especially bad. It's leaves turn yellow late spring and early summer while veins stay relatively yellow. As you can see in the attached pictures which I took today (6/15/2021), some leaves are already dying. The other tree has similar issue but not as bad. I love chestnut trees dearly and, PLEASE, help me to save my two chestnut trees. My phone is<personal data hidden>, please send text first, since there are too many spam calls and I normally don't take calls not recognized. BTW, I just sent a similar message to Ms Erin Lizotte's cell phone asking for help. I am desperate... Thank you! Kevin

Expert Response

Hello,

Your trees are chlorotic, which is most often caused by nutrient deficiencies.  I recommend purchasing a soil test kit to determine what nutrients are available to the trees, and whether the pH is correct for chestnuts.  You can purchase one here :

Be sure to follow instruction on the packet and specify chestnut tree as your crop.

I hope this is helpful.  Thank you for contacting Ask Extension.
