Bug I’d and how to get rid of #755980

Hi I bought some uncommon lilacs and his bugs are eating them please help me understand what the bug is and what some options for treatment is to get them off my lilacs

This is a clay colored leaf beetle. The damage may be unsightly on your lilacs, but the foliage will return next year. I don't encounter this species too often.

Hand picking and throwing them into a bucket of soapy water would be one effective, non-chemical way to remove them. A broad-spectrum insecticide such as Malathion would also kill them. However, it may kill beneficial insects too.
