Something eating leaves off plants #755303

Asked June 10, 2021, 12:18 PM EDT

Help! I've never experienced this before. Something has eaten all the leaves off my sunflowers and now they are eating the leaves off the Coneflowers on the other side of the yard. Do you know what it could be and how to get rid of it? Thanks so much.

At this point it is safe to infer that this is a larger pest that almost defoliates the plants.  It may be helpful to install wire fencing to prevent further damage. It is better to take a wait and see approach before suggesting further interventions such as pesticide usage or laying traps.  Observe what these types of barriers can do to protect from further damage.

Last night I found a rabbit in our garden! We’ve never had that problem and I started searching and found a hole under the fence. Sorry I bothered you with such a silly question :-) thanks for your response though

No apologies necessary. Good observation skills. It does match the damage profile you described. And likely you will need to install protective barriers around the plants using chicken wire or even a tighter woven gauge (hardware cloth) wire to deter those hungry cute critters. Happy Gardening!
