New horizon elm tree #755216

Asked June 09, 2021, 11:43 PM EDT

My New Horizon Elm ( about 8" caliper, 10+ years old) is dropping leaves. The leaves are light brown. See photos. Is this serious? If yes, what actions should I take? Thansk.

Hennepin County Minnesota

Expert Response

Hello Thomas,

There are a number of different diseases that can cause the leaves to die and fall off elms.  I recommend sending a live sample to the U of MN Extension Plant Disease clinic for a diagnosis.  Here is a link to their website where you'll learn about their services, prices, and how to submit a sample.  I also recommend contacting them by phone (number's on the website) to have them assist you in determining what is a suitable live sample so that time is not wasted sending in the wrong material.  They are very helpful.

Good-luck!
