Almond tree worm #755179

Asked June 09, 2021, 8:13 PM EDT

We have an almond tree that is producing almonds. Come to find out the almonds are full of worms. I've Googled and since Ohio isn't big into almond production, all issues seems California related. Can you help with a what type of worm it is and possibly a plan of action?

Richland County Ohio

Expert Response

Hi Andy,

Our/my expertise on almond production is indeed quite weak. I wonder if it is naval orangeworm. I am not even sure we have this pest in Ohio. It is just an educated guess.

Follow this link on Stark Bro's website: Spraying Almond Trees - Stark Bro's (starkbros.com) I do not know if it is any good.

The gummy substance could be from insect feeding damage, such as stink bugs.

Hope this helps.
