rosemary #755006

Asked June 09, 2021, 10:59 AM EDT

I have tried to grow rosemary inside after it has been in a pot on the deck all summer. It always dies or develops a fungus. Can you please let me know the best way to grow rosemary in VT year round?

Hi Chistine,

We too like to grow rosemary throughout the year. The following article is very informative for both indoor/outdoor rosemary cultivation.

During the Winter we keep our rosemary in an unheated (55-65) sunny room and slendonly water, maybe every two weeks. Although we have had success moving a plant in and out, we had an occurrence of introduced powdery mildew to our indoor plants.

After reading the article, I am planning on propagating our planted rosemary for a few indoor plants for Winter. Once the cuttings are rooted and growing I will harvest what I can and send it to compost. I’ll have a new plant for winter and a few extra for friends in time for the holidays. The cycle will start all over again after transplanting the overwintering plants in the spring.

At the end of this summer if your potted rosemary appears healthy, try to bring it in. Place it in a cool sunny window and try not to over water even though it appears dry.
