This undesirable grass/weed is a spreading problem in my yard. What is it and how do I get rid of it?

Expert Response

In order to accurately identify grasses, we need to see the roots.   If this grass has rhizomes, long white roots, it is quack grass.  Compare what you are seeing with the website.

Thanks for the picture.  It’s crabgrass.  The best time to control it is early spring. Hand removing it now prevents it from seeding into the grass.

The difference between the two crabgrasses is that one has hairy blades and the other has smooth blades. The websites give additional information.
